A Fruity New Addition

Summertime. Bright hot sun, ice cream, school is out, family barbecues, days by the pool. On a nice, warm, summer day, there’s nothing like an ice cold, fruity drink to get you in the summer spirit!

Even though winter is right on our heels, here at North High we just might be able to savor that summer feeling a little while longer.

The newest addition to our North High community comes in a little pink carton. Recently, strawberry milk has been added to the school lunch menu!

This seemed to have sent a portion of the student population into a giddy frenzy at just the sight of it! No other part of school seems to get students quite as excited (except maybe home coming).

I myself was one of the people who, on the first day it was introduced, was  intrigued by this new development. It had to have gone over well in the first couple of days since I repeatedly heard from a member of the lunch staff, “‘don’t worry, we’re getting more in tomorrow'”.

“I was very excited that we got a new milk flavor, and strawberry is my favorite kind of milk! I hope it will be [permanent], personally I don’t like chocolate milk and strawberry milk is another way for students to get calcium and nutrients,” says sophomore Emma Palm, making a good point. The school cafeteria has portion requirements so that students meet nutrition standards. Could this get even more kids drinking milk?

After trying the milk every day it’s been available for about the past week, she’s just as impressed as she hoped to be the first day it was introduced. Palm gushed, “It’s super-duper good, and I am in love with the concept of strawberry milk.”

Though it’s obvious there are students like Palm who love the new milk, it also has it’s fair share of haters too.

Junior Allison Jimenez says initially she was, “Surprised because I wasn’t expecting it”, but was less impressed as time went on. “When it first came out it was an exciting thing to taste it, but I don’t think it’s as hyped up as it first was,” Jimenez says.

So was the excitement surrounding the strawberry milk just a temporary fad? Allison Jimenez thinks so. In an emotionally charged statement, she said, “That strawberry milk is nasty! [It] tastes like a melted milkshake!” Sounds like it won’t be getting everyone drinking more milk.

So if you haven’t already, be sure to pick up a carton of strawberry milk for yourself! Or maybe don’t if you’re not a fan of melted milkshakes.
