Erica Jordan, Journlism 1

The Carter G. Woodson Society is a club that is based on learning about the history of  African american people, that we don’t get to learn about in our everyday history classes. It shines a light on the   rich heritage  of the African  American community. “The Carter G. Woodson  Society,  offers kids at north a  chance  to  learn about  Black history, and  culture, and there effects on the history of the United States.” Says the clubs  leader , Miss. Neblett. “The goal is to expose students to the rich heritage  of Black And African Americans, and to support them in their own academic and personal growth.” The educational focus  this year will be on the major contributions of African Americans thought out  time. “This  club allows students to take  charge  of their learning, by allowing students to explore for themselves.” Around the beginning  of spring brake there will be a field trip to Washington DC for a  tour of  Howard University and the National museum of  African America History and  Culture, “This trip is the greatest key stone. Having an opportunity to see [the culture and heritage  of  African American history] for yourself in a large scale will  really kind of infuse students with a renewed excitement for black  history. ” says,  Miss. Neblett  The  Impotence of having a group/club like this at north, is soul on the fact that in each class you go to the  teaching of  the African American/black culture, history, heritage is either  briefly talked about,  or not  talked about at all,  students need a club/group like this so they can have a more detailed understanding of the African Americans/black.  This will give  students  a  chance to understand  themselves and  others around them.
