A New Face In the North High Choir Room
September 14, 2018
Ms. Alswager takes on the role of being the new choir teacher at North. When finding that there would be a new teacher, the choir room quickly went from nervous discussions about who that would be to relief when they realized that they were in good hands with an experienced teacher.
Ms. Alswager discusses how ever since she was 12 years old she has always wanted to be choir teacher. When asked why she’s always found interest in being a choir teacher she responded “Being in choir was where I was the happiest, and everyone else had so much fun too- I wanted to be able to share that with people for the rest of my life.”
In past years Ms. Alswager taught as a choir teacher at South Saint Paul Secondary school. Northern Lights Show Choir members recall seeing and competing Ms. Alswagers previous show choir The South Saint Paul Southside Sensations.
When asked about the future plans Ms. Alswager discusses her vision for the choir. “I want the North Choir to first and foremost be a place that is fun… Maybe down the road even having a JV show choir, an intermediate mens choir or even intermediate women’s choir.” Her positivity seems to be infectious. “She has such a good vibe… You can really tell she loves what she’s doing” Ashley Prax says regarding Ms. Alswager.
Students at North are very excited to see this new face in the choir room. “She is a breath of fresh air and I’m so excited to work with her!” Senior Julia Schleicher says when asked about Ms. Alswager.
Being the new person in a big place can be a scary thing. Lucky for Ms. Alswager she has a positive attitude making it easy for her to adapt to the new environment. “I not only love music but I love teaching… I want to do everything I can to provide the best possible music education to all students.” She also added that her door is always open to anyone who wants to reach out to her.
