On April 18th, 2023 the Writers Guild of America voted to go on strike for better pay wages and more stability. On May 1st they met with AMPTP and failed to come to a resolution.
In March of 2023, the WGA and Hollywood studios met together to negotiate a deal for a new contract. After they failed to come to an agreement, the WGA voted to go on strike. Things seemed to be getting nowhere until, according to CNBC, “Writers and producers are near an agreement to end the Writers Guild of America strike after meeting face-to-face on Wednesday, people close to the negotiations told CNBC’s David Faber on Wednesday.”
Reports from NBC are stating that “Hollywood writers and producers could be nearing an agreement to end the strike that has paralyzed the entertainment industry, as high-level talks enter a second day on Thursday with major studio heads now at the table.” With all of these issues going on it has put a halt on multiple shows and films leaving Hollywood arts wasting millions of dollars on nothing.
