White Lotus, a Hmong-based boys’ volleyball team, hosted a fundraising tournament on October 5, 2025, at Hazel Park in Maplewood, offering a $400 prize to the winning team and bringing the community together for fun and friendly competition.
The White Lotus volleyball tournament was organized as a fundraising event for the team, allowing players to form teams and compete for prize money. It was held outdoors on an open field with multiple nets set up. The tournament drew 15 teams and began around 8:30 a.m. Each team paid a $110 entry fee to participate and secure their spot. The event was open to the public for anyone interested in watching the games. Food trucks were set up at the edge of the field, available for all attendees. Players were responsible for bringing their own tents and chairs, providing necessary shade and comfort and allowing teams to relax and recharge between matches.
Before the event, several participants reported learning about the White Lotus volleyball tournament through friends. Many shared that they were excited to play for fun while still aiming to win. The tournament had no age limit and was open only to boys rather than coed teams. Each team fought hard to earn points up to 21, using their strength and technique to pass, set, and spike the ball, aiming to outplay their opponents. Every time a team scored, their cheers echoed across the field, full of energy and team spirit. Overall, it was a wholesome experience as players supported and encouraged one another. Each team also volunteered to serve as referees for other matches until the end of the tournament, around 8:00 p.m.
At the end of the tournament, players were asked how volleyball had influenced their lives. Many shared that the experience helped them relieve stress, make friends, improve their health, develop a passion for the sport, and—most importantly—find happiness. For some, volleyball has become a regular part of their routine, something to look forward to each week. This opportunity not only helped players sharpen their volleyball skills but also showed how sports can unite communities, reconnect old friends, build lasting memories, and inspire growth beyond the game. Overall, this tournament boosted players’ confidence in their abilities and encouraged them to join more tournaments later in the year.
