Summer ending came with a lot of shifts in schedules of students; whether that be the starting of fall sports or scaling back work hours to fit time for school and other activities- students had to get back into the mood of balancing out everything around school.

Mary Patsy is a North High Junior who is involved in NHS, tennis, and is on the basketball team for North. When asked how she balances her time, she mentioned “ I have a planner and I make lots of notes in my phone and on post-its to try to make sure I remember everything so I can manage my time.” That is a common organizational way to keep everything in tact and prioritized. Planners have been very effective. Echai Khang, another North High Junior mentioned “ I have a planner and I write everything out! I plan all my events and the days I work as well.”

With all these tasks to accomplish, there are some challenges that are to face. Shaliciah Jones, a North High sophomore runs track, and has a job at the Polar Ridge. She said her biggest challenge has been “Balancing out school along with work. It has been hard to get my work done at times.” Many students struggle with this issue. For many students, they are bombarded with challenging classes, hours worth of homework, and have to incorporate sports, clubs, and activities into their busy schedules.

Despite managing cramped schedules, there has been a lot of advantages in dealing with managing time and activities. There of course, are down times, where students can relax and do what they enjoy. Emily Masterson, a student of the Junior class spends her free time “definitely hanging out with friends!” She’s a very industrious student. Emily is apart of soccer, Nordic skiing, Track and Field, Link Crew, NHS, and attends Japanese school on weekends. Paige Livingston, an active North High student, explains: “In my free time I like to either watch tv and catch up with my shows, or try to hangout with friends.”

At the end of the day students should realize that they’re teenagers, and that they should never forget to have fun in between their busy schedules.
