Mr. Reynolds: The Most Intimidating Teacher at North High

Ruby Davis-Nelson, Journalism I

It is undeniable that Mr. Reynolds has made a reputation for himself as “The most intimidating teacher at North High School for students.” Although many students are afraid of Mr. Reynolds, it is easily said that he is also one of the most respected teachers.

Even though the class Mr. Reynolds teaches Advanced Placement U.S. History. Kids don’t usually drop the class. The curriculum seems to only drive away 2 or 3 kids a year. Homework is college level and so are the classes, so sometimes it can be intense. But intensity is good! It keeps kids engaged and in the right mindset for the class.

Maggie Lacasse is in Mr. Reynolds’ 5th hour class, “He’s not a huge fan of our class at all.” 5th hour is known for their ability to annoy and torture Mr. Reynolds to the point where he assigns a quiz for the hour every Thursday. Packing up early and not doing your homework is intolerable in Mr. Reynolds class.

Paying attention in AP U.S. History pays off when he calls on you in class and when your tested. Tests are very important and are worth most of your grade because there are only two in a trimester, just like a college course. Everything Reynolds says is important and means something; he doesn’t say what he says just for fun.

“Write it in your own blood!” is a quote frequently used by Mr. Reynolds. It’s translated into ‘This is very important, remember it, circle it, highlight it, I don’t care, but for gods sake just remember it.” Like it was said before, you’ll need it in the future.

Maggie Lacasse is a student that has been involved in yearbook since sophomore year. Mr. Reynolds is the man in charge of the yearbook crew and is almost exactly how he is in a classroom with the students. “If you do your job, right and on time, he’ll be happy. He’s generally happy when he’s at yearbook but has to sometimes act mean to get us to work.”

Even though Reynolds is known for being intimidating and terrifying, he’s actually a nice person. He tells his students he loves them, even when they’re being stupid. And is undoubtedly one of the best teachers at North High. Not every teacher loves what they teach but it’s obvious that Reynolds truly loves what he does and knows what he’s doing. Maggie Lacasse shares, “I know for a fact that he loves what he does because he loves U.S. History and he loves being in charge, so with his job he can have both.”
