The Council’s Future

Student Council plays a big part in the making of the North High experience. From dances to fundraisers to activities, Student Council is behind all of it. The council always meets Thursdays before school to discuss future events and plans. I sat down with the Presidents and Vice Presidents to talk their visions of Student Council.

Julia Schleicher is one of the Presidents of the council and oversees all of the events that Student Council creates. She says that her favorite event to put on is teacher date night. For those who don’t know, teacher date night is an event where the teachers of North High drop off their kids at school and the council watches over them while the teachers get a night out. “I love getting to babysit all the teachers’ kids. They’re really sweet and it has always been one of my favorite events we put on,” Madam President Julia says.

I asked Julia what her vision of Student Council is and she said “I want to maintain the good relationship we have with the students and administration. We have a wonderful working relationship and all of our events this year have gone off without a hitch because of it.” When asking Nathan Huntley what his vision for Student Council he said “I want to allow dances to be at a very low price and to provide things that can enhance the enjoyment of the high school experience.”

Both Nathan and Julia are very excited for the neon dance that is coming up shortly on November 29th. It’s a brand new event that the council is trying this year and they are very excited to put it on.

Student Council is very important to North High. “It’s a way for students to voice their thoughts and ideas,” Julia says. Nathan says “without student council the student moral would be a lot lower without the enjoyment of activities… Student council events are important to be involved in because in a way it’s a process bigger than yourself. You can bring joy to the student body and have fun in the process as well.”
