Making Bold Moves

Trying something new is always hard, and it’s even harder if it’s something that people don’t expect. For example, going from one end of a spectrum to the complete opposite.

This past weekend, Nauviyin Lee made a very bold move as per usual. Lee dyed her long black her to platinum bleach blonde. Lee shared that she needed something new and drastic in her life; she believed that switching up her hair was the best way to go about this. Lee very rarely shies away from anything. Lee shares, “I’m used to making bold moves and not really caring about what others think. I’m very content with the decisions I make.” Lee didn’t sweat the possible unhappy outcomes; it is just temporary, and even it some had gone wrong, Lee would certainly find a way to make it work.

Of course, not everyone is always as daring as Lee. Early in October, Ruby Davis-Nelson did something that’s she’s been waiting to do for awhile. For some time, Davis-Nelson debated getting bangs, but due to her insecurities, it stopped her for awhile, however, it didn’t stop her.

One afternoon, Davis-Nelson took a pair of scissors to her hair with her mom watching forgoing a traditional hairdresser. Davis-Nelson’s friends didn’t exactly share the same enthusiasm she had about her bangs. Overwhelmed with the lack of positive attitude from her friends, Davis-Nelson opted to get away from it all.

Davis-Nelson shared, “I forgot that no one else’s opinion matters because all in all I freaking love my bangs and [forget] everyone who doesn’t.” Nowadays, more people get caught up in what others might think instead of doing what they want to do. Other people’s opinions shouldn’t matter nor should they stop you from pursing anything; other people’s opinions don’t have power unless you give it the power to do so.
