Every first trimester, Mr. Hagel assigns both his Political Science and AP Government and Politics student a trimester project. Mr. Hagel tasks his students to get themselves involved in any form and level of government with a presentation at the end of the trimester. This year, Grace Stolte, Alex Rhyner, and Sara Westemeier decided to head to Hennepin County Court to meet and interview a judge, defense attorney, and a prosecutor. The group of students viewed a bail hearing. Sara Westemeier shares, “It was very interesting to watch a couple cases and see how they were decided. It was a good experience to know about how the law works and how people plead guilty or innocent.” As Mr. Hagel hoped, the trio were able to learn a lot about the court system.
