Here at North High, the Polars have been known for the quality of soccer we’ve had for the past 7 years, but with the Polars graduating another class of seniors, what will the future of North High soccer look like?

Our boys soccer team finished the season 11-4-1(wins,losses, draws) with our star Forward Kenlove Solon finishing the season with 12 goals and making the all metro team. Our North Polars were eliminated ended their previous with a disappointing 1-3 lost to White Bear Lake in the first round of sections.

Our soccer program has also been recognized for the diversity the team shows with our varsity team being interviewed by WCCO by David McCoy. The diversity our soccer program has is one of the many things that make our program standout and it really defines the way we play soccer here at North High.

Though our soccer team will be graduating fewer seniors than the previous we will be losing some key players such as Kearby Larson, the goalie who finished the season with 76 saves in 16 games last season. We will need new underclassmen to fill the shoes our graduating class will be leaving behind.

In my time interviewing students and staff members involved with soccer I got the chance to interview threecurrent players in the soccer program Ben Peterson, Seng Thao, and Cesar Lopez-Rodriguez. I also had the chance to interview our North High soccer coach Casey Holm.

Coach Holm had some expectations for the players when he said, “Players will play with top clubs to set the level of experience we need to compete at a high level always.” The shortage of players playing outside school seemed most concerned to coach Casey when he said “our limited top end club players.” It seems the experience of the players is what will negatively impact the future.

The players interviewed seemed to be two-sided on the future. Seng Thao, a varsity player believed that the young players we have will hold us back when commented “I believe it will be a challenge for us to win a lot of games because we have a lot of young players, but I believe we will have the advantage our senior year because we have a lot of good players(sophomores).

While on the other hand Cesar believed that we have a bright future ahead of us when he said “I think we have a bright future ahead of us. Replacing old players with a new generation of players who have been playing together for some time”.

It seems rather unknown what the future will look like, but what is seen is that we will have a interesting future. Hope to catch at a home game at Polar Field next season!
